Third Eye

The Third Eye was my final project for a class called Making It, which focused on combining entrepreneurship with engineering.

For the final project, my team wanted to create something that improved efficiency during sports practices. My initial idea was for a heads-up display swim goggle that could give the athlete set information while swimming. One of my partners wanted to create an interactive arm band for football to allow for dynamic play calling.  We combined these ideas to create a heads-up display for football helmets that would allow coaches to broadcast plays to the players without having to huddle.

Our prototype utilized a picoprojector for the display generation, oriented so that the image would reflect off a semi-reflective tinted visor and into the wearer's eye. This created enough optical focusing distance. In order to make the image viewable, we focused it using a 1" focal length lens and reduced the brightness with a neutral density filter. The mount was 3D printed.
